Private Party Firearm Transfers
A Private Party Firearm Transfer is when an individual wants to transfer ownership of a firearm to another individual who resides in the same state. The transfer of ownership must be facilitated by a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer. Also known as a “Person-to-Person Transfer”.
Please read our instructions and policies below to make sure the transfer process goes smoothly, and you know what to expect:
The fee for a Private Party Firearm Transfer is $65, paid when the 4473 (background check) is submitted, non-refundable.
If there are multiple firearms being transferred on the same transaction, additional transfer fees will apply at a discounted rate.
The fee for a background check is $10, paid when the 4473 is submitted, non-refundable.
If you are transferring a handgun, the Child Safety Lock Act of 2005 states that we are required to provide secure gun storage or a safety device with all handguns transferred at our facility. If neither of these devices are provided with your handgun, we will provide you with a handgun child safety lock for an additional $10.
The transferor and transferee must be present at the same time to start the transfer process.
The transferor and transferee must have valid government issued photo ID, showing proof of their current physical address.
The firearm will remain in exclusive possession of Hunt G4 until the transferee has received an “approved” response on their 4473.
If the transferee received a “denied” or “cancelled” response on their 4473, the original transferor will be notified. If the transferor wants to take possession of the firearm, they must complete a 4473, and receive an approval, to regain possession of the firearm. Transfer fees and background check fees apply.
The original transferor will have 90 days to complete the return. After 90 days, if no other arrangements are made, we will surrender the firearm to local law enforcement.
